We interrupt my Major League Baseball division previews with a little movie review.
My family and I did a movie night and took in Trolls World Tour. We loved the first one and hadn't gotten around to seeing the sequel yet.
Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake are back as "Poppy" and "Branch." The trolls as we know them discover that there are more to their kind than they knew. And not all of them are pleasant.
The movie plot is based on music and the different kinds that make up the troll world. Poppy and Branch's crew like Pop. But there's also the rock lovers, country lovers and others. Six different kinds of music with different notes that make up the strings of a guitar.
The queen of the rock trolls is Barb, who is played by Rachel Bloom. She spends the movie trying to trick the other groups into giving up their strings so she can turn all of the trolls world into a rock concert.
I joked with my family that any other situation and I would be on board with Barb's crew. Rock music will always be my favorite. But Barb proves to be too evil to support and it's up to Poppy, Branch and the others to make sure she doesn't succeed.
It's a fun movie that might have more music scenes than scenes with dialog. That's not a bad thing though. My wife, daughter and I were signing and dancing the whole 90 minutes.
The flick also features the voices of James Corden, Kelly Clarkson, Sam Rockwell, Mary J. Blige, Kenan Thompson and minor voice roles from Zooey Deschanel and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who is most known as McLovin from Superbad.
If you have young kids and want to be entertained for a night while quarantined, check this one out. It's not better than the first one in my opinion, but still worth seeing.
